We are the largest millers of maize and wheat in Kenya, producing both maize and wheat flour under the Ndovu, Taifa, Swan, Cosmo, Bahari, Shibe and Tima brands. Our vast portfolio also includes edible oils, animal feeds, salt, sweets and confectioneries. We circulate our products nationally to both the retail and wholesale markets, catering to all demographics and segments. Our catchphrase “feeding the nation” is not just a slogan but a promise.

Mombasa Maize Millers commands beyond 38% of the market share of the wheat flour category, while our maize meal brands command above 27% market share. This is a massive share for a single company considering how the flour industry has become quite competitive with influx of new entrant brands.

Since the inception of the business, we have won many accolades but the one we are most proud of is the fact that our customers are loyal to our products. History

Founded in 1978 by two brothers, Islam Ali and Ahmed Ali; fondly known as “The Ali Brothers”. Sadly brothers have since passed away but their legacy continues with the second generation taking over. The children of the two founders have since worked together to make sure the brand integrity and quality continue.

Mombasa Maize Millers started with a single small maize mill in Mombasa and has since grown to become the largest miller of maize and wheat in Kenya with mills located in various towns including Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru, Kisumu and Kitale.

In the early days, the brand faced tough challenges such as capital facility, this was a challenge especially given the ambitions and goals to grow. Communities used to mainly consume maize in its unprocessed state, hence limiting the number of people who were willing to or could afford to buy processed maize flour. It took a lot of perseverance to convince people to use processed foods. In addition to that, lack of proper infrastructures posed challenges in transportation and communication, making reaching out to convert consumers immensely difficult.

We have always prided ourselves in the quality of their products. We believe this has been the biggest reason for the strong growth throughout the years. The company has achieved this by fine-tuning the milling process to produce the best quality product, but also by having very stringent quality standards in the purchase of their raw materials. Consistency of the above has been the key factor attributed to brand growth from a small local brand to a one on a national and international level. All this is thanks to the unity, support and recognition of talent from the family members. Mombasa Maize Millers has always had a special edge and this comes from them being a family business where the Ali family extends to all the people who work within the organization and make the brand what it is today.
